Times Table Naughts and Crosses
Here's a unique slant (as far as I can tell) on a very old game.
First, pick your ordinary, everyday, everyone can play game, Naughts and crosses (or TicTac Toe). Second, boost it with a mathematical link (in this case times tables).
The result is a fun, educational maths game focussed on helping children practice those 'hard' times tables, the 6x, 7x, 8x and 9x.
The download* consists of two board games, a traditional 3 by 3 board, and an 'extended' 4 by 4 board. The boards feature full instructions of how to play. There are also two sets of 28 times table tokens, one blue set for the 'O's' and a red set for 'X's'.
The game is played in exactly the same way as 'normal' naughts and crosses. Except that whenever it is a player's turn to play they must choose one of their (unseen) times table tokens. If they correctly identify the product they may play the piece, if not, they must miss that turn.
The game is another fast, engaging and effective way for children to practice particular times table facts.
Let me know how it plays for you.
Following a suggestion from Sarahlou_86, we've now added a set of smaller times-tables 'tiles'. Specifically the 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x. See the additional download (naughts-crosses-2345.pdf) below.
