Times Table Target Boards
A straightforward, but engaging way for children to demonstrate their skills and understanding of times tables.
This resource was developed by a student to use on a recent school based training. The student created this for a Y4 class, adapting an original spelling activity. I don't think it's been used in this format before. Thank you Laura for letting me share it on this site.
The activity involves children working in pairs to ask each other multiplication questions based on a times table they have been learning. The children gain points (or counters) for each correct answer - the more difficult the multiplication fact, the more points they win.
It is designed to be used as a laminated board withthe children pointing to questions or covering them with counters. However, it could be photocopied onto paper and used as a a way of recording security with each table;
At present we've only developed it for those 'tricky' tables: the 7x, 8x and 9x. If it is appropriate for your children please let me know how you get on with it. We can clearly extend it for any times table - and, indeed, for other mathematical facts.
The downloadable file* contains three times table boards, one blank boar and an explanation of the activity for the children.
