Here’s a unique way to support the educational charity ‘Common Hope’. The charity is focussed on supporting and empowering children and their families in Guatemala. To aid the charity, the University of Oxford’s Mathematical Institute Blog is asking people to name symmetrical objects! No, it’s not a quiz, but it is an opportunity to actually name a new symmetrical object.
People have stars named after them, craters on the moon, even comets…but how about naming a symmetrical object in hyperspace? Marcus du Sautoy has discovered some significant new symmetrical objects but they currently have no names.
You can donate any amount you like, but if you donate £10 or over you can have one of those newly discovered symmetrical shapes named after you. Go to the Mathematical Institute’s blog for the full story.
Love to hear what you think of this in the comments and would appreciate your likes, tweets and Pluses if you enjoy it!
