Buttonalio Information
Buttonalio - a simple counting program with big ideas.
You are presented with a series of 'Games screens':
- Each screen displays a number of buttons.
- Each button has a label.
- You click the buttons in the correct order to make them disappear.
- As each button goes it reveals more of a hidden picture.
It's a 'game' - it's an educational activity - it's also quite fun to 'program' too.
Here's a simple 'counting' example:

This is only the first screen of a 10-screen activity designed to reinforce counting skills for young children, and also helps them practice important 'mouse skills'.
Buttonalio also works well on an Interactive White Board.
It would be useful if I could adapt it for older children?
You can!
For example, Ordering decimals:

Does the program have to use numbers?
There's very little restriction on what can be used as a button label.
How about counting in Welsh?

... or ordering the written form of numbers?

... or ordering seasons, months and days in Spanish?

Wouldn't it be great if you could program it with ANYTHING?
You can, anything that can be counted or 'ordered' can be put into Buttonalio. It doesn't even have to be mathematical. Just for starters, what about:
- Kings and Queens of England from 1603 onward
- Prime ministers of the UK since 1721
- Presidents of the US since 1789
- Longest rivers
- Tallest mountains
- Elements of the Periodic table
- Putting words in alphabetical order
- Repairing broken sentences
There's very little restriction, you type the details into the settings screen in the correct order, separating the labels with double equals signs "==", and that's it.

It's very flexible, but it's a shame you can't change the pictures?
You can. Simply drag and drop an image from your computer into the settings screen. The images are displayed in the same order in which you add them. You can even display images from the internet.

Okay, but what if I just want to use the program quickly, without all the typing and setting up...?
Instead of entering the details in, you can download 'Button Files' and load them directly into the settings screen. You can then use the file 'as is', or adapt it. This is also a great way to share files with others.
I like it... but it sounds expensive.
It's completely free to download and use.
Buttonalio has a 'sponsored by' mathsticks link to help publicise this website. However, there is an option to remove this and personalise the program - there is a small charge for this facility.
Where do I get it?
The download link* just below here
As will all mathsticks materials we can assure you that the program is completely free of viruses or adware..
* Login/register first to access the downloadable files.

the possibilities with this
Top Thanks
Thank you all (again) for your very, very kind comments - as I have said before, I am just pleased the software is useful. Please let me know how you use it and what response you get.
@Milton - yes, smiley would be a bonus (a small one), but a bonus non the less...
@abandonship & @pamted - Thank you. I have another mathematics teaching software project in development -- watch this space!
Thank you!!!

I love this!
I love this... a great idea - and fun to use.
The Setting panel is straightforward enough for some children to use. I think I need to play around with it for a little longer, but then maybe let some of my Y6 children build their own button pages to test each other with!
ps - can we have smileys for these comments?

Thanks for the positive feedback. It's been a hard slog putting it together so it is good to see others think it will be useful.
Cheers,
